Betta Fish Bowls
The betta fish makes a great pet. It is the perfect choice for
those who have never owned a fish and would like to begin their
experience as an aquarium owner simply and effortlessly. The betta
fish (sometimes called the Siamese Fighting Fish) prefers a small
glass bowl or tank compared to a large aquarium, adding to its appeal
to new fish keepers. Goldfish, on the other hand, grow rather large
and prefer plenty of space as opposed to the glass bowls they are
accustomed to being kept in. Not only are these fish perfect for
offices and homes, but they also come in a variety of bright and
beautiful colors making them a beautiful addition to any decor.
You can keep the fish in a bowl that is adorned with rocks and
even plant cuttings. There are a number of beautifully exquisite
and handcrafted tanks available to choose from as well. You can
purchase an elaborate glass bowl that hangs from a stand to showcase
your betta, or you can place your fish in a simple tabletop glass
bowl. Either way, you can be sure that it will be a wonderful centerpiece.
One of the best features about betta fish is that they do not require
aeration in their bowls. You can simply purchase spring water (it
is preferable to avoid using tap water for your fish); add some
gravel, plant cuttings, and your fish. They prefer to be alone,
so if you would like more than one fish, it is better to keep them
in separate bowls then to put them together. This is how they received
the name, Siamese Fighting Fish, as it is not uncommon for bettas
to fight to the death if housed together.
To begin with, you will need either a betta
fish bowl or tank. Make sure that the opening is large enough
that you could easily pass your fist through it. This is to ensure
that you will be able to adequately clean the bowl as well as slip
a net inside. You can use bog plants or other suitable water plants.
Simply anchor them to the bottom with gravel and you are all set.
Be sure to feed your fish daily, but beware of overfeeding, which
can cause the fish’s water to become cloudy. If the water
becomes cloudy, remove your fish with a net and place it temporarily
in spring water. The water should be kept between 65-75’.
It is a good idea to use vinegar for cleaning your tank and other
accessories. Soaps and strong chemicals may leave residue, which
is unhealthy for your fish. Once you have thoroughly cleaned it
and replaced the water, add the fish back to the tank. You will
discover that Betta fish are surprisingly very easy to care for
and makes a great addition to your home.
